ART FOCUS 4International Biennial of Contemporary Art, Jerusalem Art Focus, the fourth international biennial of contemporary art in Jerusalem is to be held this year in the Museum of Underground Prisoners - a facility owned by the Israeli Ministry of Defense. Using this proposition and in accord with the event's curators Igal Tzalmona and Suzanne Landau, the ministry decided to have the artworks supervised by its clerks in order to have changed(!) works that may, in their opinion, "damage the spirit of the site". All the participating artists were sent the contract, according to which, the Ministry of Defense "reserves the right to request from the artist to make changes in his/her work". Most of the artists have agreed to these terms and signed the contract. |

" 'Whereas was clarified to the artist that his/her work may not contain exhibits that damage the spirit of the site, the museum [Museum of Underground Prisoners] reserves the right to request from the artist to make changes in his/her work in order to not damage the spirit of the site'*. Because of the fact that the site belongs to the Ministry of Defense - the supervision of the works is conducted by clerks of the ministry."
